OBN III's @ Beerland Tonight
We’re playing with Suede Uppers, Planets and The Energy from Houston. From the Facebook event page:
If you were in Houston for Temporary Insanity a couple of weeks ago then you should have seen The Energy blister through over time set all the way to 3:00 AM. No glass or glasses were spared and ALL were harmed in the making of this event. You MUST come.
So that settles it. You MUST...

Today I Learned
That my Alma mater claims to be “America’s first fully air-conditioned college.” Apparently, they were on the cutting edge of creature comforts in 1950.
This from the university that had to send me a second diploma because the first one had typos. No, I did not join the alumni association.

From Eric Hanushek:
A teacher one standard deviation above the mean effectiveness annually generates marginal gains of over $400,000 in present value of student future earnings with a class size of 20 and proportionately higher with larger class sizes. Alternatively, replacing the bottom 5-8 percent of teachers with average teachers could move the U.S. near the top of international math and...

Girls Don’t Like Me - The Energy
We, OBN III’s, played the Temporary Instanity Fest in Houston on Saturday and it was outrageous. This is The Energy and they closed out the night. During our set two guys got kicked out for fighting, and it was like everyone just wanted to riot.
My favorite part of the above video is that you can see me motioning for help to find my glasses because...
hoarr asked: Give me a current band that has a rock-pop sound similar to Phil Spector did.
Listening to a bunch of Roy Wood and ELO lately, and I really want to get into someone new that has a similar sound.

Freedom of Speech and Money
I’m going to think out loud for a bit regarding the nature of the State, Currency, and Wikileaks. I won’t spam your dash with it, but it is there if you want to read it.
There have been many organizations that have been refusing to distribute payment to wikileaks because of questions regarding its legality. Obviously, the State has a great interest in keeping wikileaks from...

The Office and Mixed Drinks
Oscar: I’ll make it. What are you drinking? Ryan The Intern: An F train to Brooklyn. Extra Bitters.
Obviously this drink is made up. But if it did exist. What would it be!?!

I Had A Dream Last Night
that someone willed me a mansion in London. I walked into part of it and thought to myself:
This is another wing. So, this is what it’s like when a building has wings.
I then decided to sell all the art in that wing to buy contemporary art to fill it. There were numerous people in my dream who objected to my plan.
What does this mean?

thatfrenchman asked: Is the meetup still on for this upcoming Wednesday? I'm going to see what I can do about getting out of work.
thatfrenchman asked: When are you moving? Do you need any help? I'd be very willing to do a move-helper trade-off as I may be needing some help on the 31st for my move.
balltillifall asked: What part of Austin did you move to?

kevinnuut replied to your photo: Every time I move I regret owning books.
I’m OCD about clutter so the Kindle has been a godsend. I’m slowly getting through my analog books so I can donate them off.
I don’t see them as clutter. I’m pretty aggressive about getting rid of ones that I absolutely won’t want to revisit, and I do the same with my records. Even with that I still end...

I will gladly take some off your hands. I have amazing, but empty, bookcases after moving and moving and moving.
As much as I hated moving them I will be keeping them. Good luck filling your bookshelves. I’m back in the market for bookshelves.

Just Remembered
During high school, I once ate at a soul food place in Harlem that for some reason had pints of blood sitting in water in a sink in the men’s bathroom.
