I Feel Compelled To Say Something
A warning this is going to be political in nature.
I just saw a headline saying that California may be seeking federal funds after being unable to cut its budget or raise it’s already high taxes. I might actually call senators and yell at people if this happens. I might even write a letter. A strongly worded letter no less.
The whole situation makes me think of a situation that occurred after we gained our independance. Many merchants wanted to just wipe their British debts clean. The revolution could just be a massive reset button. They were forced to pay their debts because if they didn’t America would never be extended the credit it desperately needed as a new nation.
And so here we are. We have a state trying to ignore it’s own soviergnty over it’s people by going to the State and saying oops. Unnacceptable. I’m upset about the car bailouts already, but this is completely different.
We are talking about law makers who are refusing to do their jobs because their decisions will make them unpopular. Boo-Hoo. It’s called public service and it’s not always glamourous. Spend X Tax Y and if you come up short figure it out just like the rest of us.
There’s a legislative, executive, and judicial branch that let the state of California get like this. No one was man enough to do what’s right? Or what’s worse the voters didn’t care. Then make them learn their lesson.
Oh wait. California has a massive economy if they fail what will happen to poor defenseless Rhode Island? News stories like this are there to prepare you for the actual headline. So when you see it you don’t start a riot.
