Jason Smith, if he didn't exist, someone would try to invent him. Currently in Austin, Texas.

Oakwood Cemetery at 16th Street and Navasota in East Austin is the city’s oldest public burial ground. “It was established in 1839,” said Dale Flatt of Save Austin’s Cemeteries. “The same year the city was established. The first recorded burial was that of a young black boy who was robbed. The oldest existing monument we have in the cemetery dates back to 1842. These two gentlemen were killed by Indians in what is now Zilker Park while hunting bear.

City of Austin running out of places to bury dead

2 Things

  1. Has the Indian threat in Zilker been neutralized? I mean, surely a treaty has been signed, or a trail of tears two. I don’t know. It wasn’t in my Texas history textbook.*
  2. If they were hunting bear that means there are bears. Has the bear threat been neutralized?

Be safe out there.

*This got politically incorrect real quick.
