I’m going to say what we are all thinking:
Fun Fun Fun Fest >ACL Fest
Anthony Bourdain came to Austin, ate at Perla’s, and did voice overs about our trailer eateries that he should have eaten at. Only 3 trailers featured, but that’s a hard call when there are so many to choose from.
Anyway, come to Austin, and eat. It’s seriously all we do.
I can remember saving to buy a ticket to go to ACL one summer. It was a ridiculous lineup. The day that I had the money the three day passes sold out. This was in the middle of June, and gives you an idea of how much bigger the thing is now because it sold out in what? April? Anyway, when I moved to Austin I thought, “Now I will go to ACL and my life will be complete,” but this has not been the case. The lineups have been meh.
To illustrate my point:
- Bands in this years line-up I’ve already seen: 11
- Bands in this years line-up I haven’t seen but want to: 3
- Bands in this years line-up I have never wanted to see and never ever want to see: 1 (Phish)
- Bands in this years line-up I have seen and never ever want to see again: 1 (Eagles)
That’s right I saw the Eagles. For Free, and it was the most boring live concert ever. My dad and I left before it was over. Anyway, the bands I want to see will come back to Austin, and they will play small venues and the shows will be better for it.
