BREAKING: The one man dance party returns to Austin during South By.

This is relevant to your interests.

My first South By I went to 3 shows in three days. Epic fail. I don’t want anyone to have that experience. So here is my advice:

Planning is everything. Show List Austin. This Blog. Sched. Use those and figure out everything you want to see. Then write it all down and carry that with you to determine your plan of action each day. Include alternatives.
RSVP RSVP RSVP. To Everything.
The Pure Volume House. Those great shows from 11PM-5AM. Your RSVP and badge does not get you into those. Plan on knowing someone or begging to do that.
Auditorium Shores Shows. Want to see The Strokes for free? Great. Go right ahead. Tons of people. Plenty of high schoolers and babies. Nothing is free. It’s your average large concert going experience. I would recommend finding something better to do.
Budget time for standing in line. If you want to see a band headline a free showcase at 5PM. Plan on getting there at like 2:30 so you can get in. (I’m conservative and don’t take risks. Your threshold might be higher or lower than mine)
iPhone users. Screen Brightness all the way down. 3G off. Carry your charger.
Free electricity and clean bathrooms at the convention center all day and late into the night.
You can’t do everything. Be Flexible.
