“ Madeleine’s love troubles had begun at a time when the French theory she was reading deconstructed the very notion of love.”
“ People used to buy bootleg CDs and Japanese imports containing music that none of their friends could get hold of. Now that almost every track is available free on music-streaming services like Spotify or on a pirate website, music fans need something else to boast about. That limited-edition 12-inch in translucent blue vinyl will do nicely.”

“Here. The most precious thing I own.” He took his union card from his wallet and showed them, one by one. “the words right here”-pointing to the slogan on the back of the card-“is what it all comes down to, you won’t here it in school, maybe the Gettysburg Address, Declaration of Independence and so forth, but if you learn nothing else, learn this by heart, what it says here- ‘Labor produces all wealth. - Shipping Out: On the (nearly lethal) comforts of a luxury cruise - David Foster Wallace, Harpers Magazine
Finally (15 years ago), someone put into words how I feel about seas and oceans.
And my sister still refuses to understand why I don’t want to go on a cruise. I don’t need to be at sea as an excuse to gorge and dance excessively for five consecutive days.
