CAR THIEF!

As you might remember, my car was broken into over the weekend. Dropped it off with the insurance company today, and am now in a rental (Chevy Malibu). It’s an automatic, and I feel like I’m doing nothing while I’m driving.

Anyway, I haven’t made a CD for a car of mine in over a year because I can run my iPhone into my car stereo and control it from the dash. I know, it’s the only actual luxury my car has. So, I usually just plug that sucker in on shuffle and bop around town. Yes, I’m a bopper. One who bops.

I don’t really want to drive around listening to The Strokes and The Reverend Horton Heat exclusively for however long the repairs take so I put a playlist together and decided to share it with you. There is no real theme except that they are songs I’m into lately and want to listen to while getting from Point A to Point B. Enjoy.

  1. Watch Your Step - Welcome Home Walker
  2. Modern Kicks - The Exploding Hearts
  3. You’re Pretty Good Looking (For A Girl) - The White Stripes
  4. And Then He Kissed Me - Asobi Seksu

Dig On This

I remember being a kid and my parents always playing the Oldies station. Of course I loved it, and then Jr. High came around and suddenly I was embarrassed to like anything that wasn’t on MTV. Sometime during High School the station changed formats and stopped playing anything before the British Invasion. I wouldn’t even know where to look on the radio for this stuff anymore.

Not that is was a big deal to me then, but lately I’ve been really into some Motown/Northern Soul.  This is a quick 10 song mix I put together that I think is pretty strong.

  1. Gino Is A Coward - Gino Washington
  2. 31 Flavors - The Shirelles
  3. I Can’t Help Myself (Sugar Pie, Honey Bunch) - The Four Tops
  4. You Can’t Hurry Love - The Supremes
  5. Runaway - Del Shannon
  6. Come See About Me - Nella Dodds
  7. Stay - The Hollies
  8. Laisse Tomber Les Filles - France Gall
  9. Whiplash - The Shells
  10. You’ve Really Got A Hold On Me - The Miracles

Mix Tape Rules

I’ve got a few rules for myself when making a mix tape. I’m no John Cusack, and my albums aren’t sorted autobiographically. Anyway, here are a few of the rules I follow:

  • No Doubling of an Artist. Unless the artist is in two different groups, or settings. For example, I might accept a Led Zeppelin song and a Robert Plant song. Though I can’t imagine why you would need to do that.
  • Avoid Popular Songs. This include songs that are indie popular. I’m looking at you Home by Edward Sharpe. Unless the song is being used to make a point.
  • Don’t Make A Girl You Like A Mixtape. In my experience she will immediately stop being interested upon completion. Even if you don’t give it to her she will know and interest will cease. This is more of a personal rule, and your results could vary.
  • Opening WIth Van Halen’s Panama Is Always a Good Idea. Heck you could just put this on a CD twelve times, and call it a day.
  • Don’t Be Overbearing With Your Superior Taste In Music. The whole thing doesn’t have to be songs that were found in attics that everyone in the world should love. This one is my greatest failing.
  • No Coldplay.

Any other rules I should add?
